Repair or replace?

Patch it again, or put a new roof on?

If someone's been up there more than once for the same problem, another patch probably isn't the answer. We'll find what's actually letting the water in, then tell you plainly which way we'd go. Either way, the quote is free.

A repair usually does it when

  • The leak traces back to one spot, like a flashing, a screw or a single sheet
  • The rest of the sheets are sound, with no rust coming through
  • It's really the gutter or box gutter backing up, not the roof

It's worth pricing a new roof when

  • The same area keeps leaking after it's been fixed
  • Rust has eaten through sheets in more than one place
  • You're paying for patches every year or two
  • Old tiles, or you're already planning new gutters or insulation

How a job runs

From first look to final clean-up.

  1. Step 1: Inspection & free quote

We come out, get up on the roof and see what's going on. You get a clear quote and straight advice on repair or replacement.

  2. Step 2: Preparation & removal

We lock in a start date with you, set up safe access, then strip the old sheets or tiles and check the battens underneath.

  3. Step 3: Installation

Metal battens, insulation and sarking where they're part of the job, then the new Colorbond sheets, flashings, gutters and downpipes.

  4. Step 4: Final check & clean-up

We go over the finished roof, clear away the offcuts and old roofing, and walk you through what's been done.

Common questions

Before you book a quote.

Anything not covered here, call 0403 652 357 and ask.

How much does a new metal roof cost in St Albans?

There's no set price. Every roof is quoted once we've seen it, and the quote is free. The size and pitch of the roof, how many hips, valleys and penetrations it has, the state of the battens underneath, and whether gutters, insulation or sarking are part of the job all change the number. Call 0403 652 357 or send the quote form to book one in.

How long does it take to replace a roof?

It depends on the size and shape of the roof and on the weather, and you'll get an expected timeframe with your quote. A bigger or more complicated roof takes longer, so does a job that adds new gutters, insulation or sarking, and rain can push a start date back or pause work part-way.

Do I need to move out while my roof is being replaced?

Usually not. Most people stay home while the roof is done. Expect noise and people on the roof during working hours, and we'll talk you through access, parking and anything to clear from the yard or roof space before work starts.

Should I repair or replace my metal roof?

If the problem traces back to one spot and the sheets are still sound, a repair is usually the sensible call. If it's leaking in more than one place, rust has come through the sheets, or you keep paying for patches, it's worth pricing a replacement. We'll get up there, find what's actually causing it, and tell you straight which we'd do.

Can a roof leak be fixed without replacing the whole roof?

Often, yes. A lot of leaks come down to one spot, like a lifted or rusted sheet, a failed flashing or a blocked gutter or box gutter backing up, and the first job is finding exactly where the water is getting in. Once we've found it we'll tell you whether a repair will do it or whether that section, or the whole roof, is due for replacement.

What's the difference between Colorbond and Zincalume?

Both are coated steel roofing made by BlueScope. Zincalume is the bare metallic-coated steel with a silver finish, and Colorbond is metallic-coated steel with a baked-on paint finish in a range of colours. Which suits your home depends on the look you're after, where you live and what any estate or council rules say, and we can talk it through when we quote.

Is it worth converting a tile roof to metal?

For a lot of homes it is, but it depends on the roof. Metal sheets run in long lengths with far fewer joints than tiles, they're much lighter on the frame, and there's a wide range of Colorbond colours to pick from. We'll look at your roof and give you honest advice on whether a conversion makes sense for it.
