Metal roof replacement in Sunshine

From the early workers' cottages near the old Harvester works to the post-war brick homes further out, a lot of Sunshine's roofs are well past their best. We replace them with new Colorbond, done properly from the battens up.

Roofs in Sunshine

Sunshine roofs, old and new.

Sunshine grew up around H.V. McKay's Sunshine Harvester works, and some of its oldest streets still have the timber workers' cottages and interwar weatherboards from that time. Further out, Sunshine and Sunshine West filled in after the war with brick veneer and weatherboard homes, and more recently with townhouses on subdivided blocks.

The older homes often still carry galvanised iron that's been patched more than once: short sheets with plenty of laps, over timber battens that have dried out and split. Once the iron rusts through at the laps and fixings, patching just moves the leak along. The post-war homes tend to have concrete tile roofs that are now porous, cracked or slipping.

Roofs here can collect dust and grime from the nearby industrial areas and main roads, and in sheltered spots, under laps and behind flashings, that grime holds moisture against the metal. Like most of the west, Sunshine is also open to strong northerlies and westerlies.

How the job runs

How the job runs.

  1. Step 1: Inspection & free quote

We get up on the roof, look at what's under it and give you a clear quote with what's included and what isn't.

  2. Step 2: Strip & prepare

We set up safe access, strip the old roof and check the battens and frame underneath.

  3. Step 3: New roof on

Battens, sarking and insulation where they are part of the job, then the new sheets, ridges and flashings.

  4. Step 4: Gutters, clean-up & walk-through

Gutters and downpipes finished, offcuts and old roofing cleared away, and the finished roof walked through with you.

Common questions

Metal roof replacement in Sunshine, answered.

Anything not covered here, call 0403 652 357 and ask.

Can I keep the look of an older Sunshine weatherboard with a new metal roof?

Yes. Corrugated sheet has the same wave profile older homes were roofed with, so a new corrugated Colorbond roof in a muted colour keeps the original look. If your street has a heritage overlay, check what the council allows before choosing.

Can you replace just one section of an old iron roof?

Sometimes. If one roof face or an extension is the problem and the rest is sound, that section can be replaced on its own. On older Sunshine homes, though, the iron is often the same age all over, so we'll show you what the rest looks like before you decide.

Do you work in Sunshine West too?

Yes. Sunshine and Sunshine West are both a short drive from our base in St Albans, and we quote and work right across both.
