Gutter & fascia replacement in Altona

Close to the bay, Altona's gutters take the salt air first. When they're rusting through, sagging or leaking at the joins, we replace them with new gutters, fascia and downpipes, set to drain properly and colour-matched to the roof.

Roofs in Altona

Bayside gutters rust first.

Altona is a bayside suburb with a lot of post-war housing: brick veneer and weatherboard homes from the 1950s and 60s, many on their original or second set of gutters, plus newer units and townhouses where blocks have been redeveloped.

Salt air is hard on gutters. They hold moisture, leaves and salt in the bottom, out of reach of the rain that rinses the roof sheets, so they often rust out well before the roof does. In Altona that usually shows as rust along the bottom and at the joins, and stains down the fascia where water has been getting behind.

Altona is also open to wind off the bay. Loose brackets and sagging runs let water sit in the low points, so when we replace gutters we set them to fall properly to each outlet and fix them firmly to sound fascia.

Common questions

Gutters, fascia & downpipes in Altona, answered.

Anything not covered here, call 0403 652 357 and ask.

Why do gutters near the bay rust out so fast?

Salt settles in the gutter along with leaves and moisture, and rain doesn't rinse a gutter the way it rinses a roof. That keeps the metal wet and salty, so gutters near the coast usually corrode faster than the roof above them. Keeping them clear helps.

Can you replace the gutters but keep my existing roof?

Yes. Gutters, fascia and downpipes can be replaced on their own. We make sure the roof sheets still finish properly into the new gutter, and match the colour as closely as we can.

Do you need to replace the fascia too?

Only if it's damaged. If water has rotted a timber fascia or rusted a metal one, it's replaced first so the new gutters have something solid to fix to. If it's sound, it stays.
